15 March 2026 Concert Review Music Reviews Review
This week’s opening of SIX at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts was an absolute thrill. From the very first beat, the theater was alive with anticipation, and the audience was completely captivated. The humor and distinct personalities of each of Henry VIII’s six wives, the powerhouse musical numbers, the undeniable chemistry between the queens, and the spectacular live band all came together to create an evening that was exhilarating, and empowering.
Each queen was distinct and exuding immense talent and charm. As an ensemble, their chemistry was off the charts. Emma Elizabeth Smith as Catherine of Aragon exuded dignity and strength, commanding attention with her glowing presence. Nella Cole’s Anne Boleyn was playful and magnetic, wearing her green mini-dress and captivating us with her quick-wit. Kelly Denice Taylor’s Jane Seymour radiated sincerity and grace, while Hailey Alexis Lewis as Anna of Cleves charmed with intelligence. strength and playful self-assuredness. Alizé Cruz’s Katherine Howard sparkled with youthful energy, and Tasia Jungbauer as Catherine Parr closed the show with poise, wisdom, and authority.
The cast was a joy to witness; their perfectly crafted humor, charm, and chemistry was palpable in every interaction. Watching these performers support, tease, and elevate each other made it clear that this cast was perfectly aligned and committed to giving the audience an unforgettable theatrical experience. I felt like I was watching six sisters shine individually, and as a collective whole!
Musically, SIX delivers nonstop energy, and the live band was phenomenal. Each musician brought their own flair, style, and personality, enhancing every scene and every musical number. The band amplified each performance, adding depth and excitement. Their energy was infectious, their musical talents impeccable, and their ability to complement and elevate the queens’ performances made the show feel even more vibrant and engaging.
The choreography was brilliant, energetic, and perfectly suited to the modern-meets-historical aesthetic. Each movement highlighted the queens’ personalities, reinforced the storytelling, and created a visual spectacle that was as entertaining as it was impressive. Costumes by Tony® Award-winning designer Gabriella Slade were stellar, perfectly blending the past with modern flair.
At one point, one audience member was prompted by one of the queens to get up and dance near their seat— a spontaneous and joyous moment that had the entire theater laughing and fully immersed. By the end, we were all on our feet, clapping, cheering, and dancing along, not wanting the night to end. It was a shared celebration of humor, talent, and empowerment that left everyone buzzing with exhilaration.
Ultimately, SIX at Segerstrom Center for the Arts is a triumph in every sense. Funny, bold, visually stunning, and musically exhilarating. The humor, dazzling costumes, multi-talented performers, and the fantastic live band combine to create an experience that is joyous, empowering, and unforgettable. Opening night of SIX was a true reflection of why this show is a global phenomenon and why these six queens truly rule the stage.
