Former Ambassador William Walker

Irvine -- Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, this evening features an interview with former Ambassador William Walker, who recently was on campus meeting with students and offering a series of talks. The show airs from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 FM in Orange County, and is simultaneously Web-cast with links at: kuci.org/listen.html.

Walker was U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador and negotiated the peace settlement with the FMLN. He also served on the OSCE mission in Kosovo.

A (critical) profile of him appears in the Spring/Summer issue of CovertAction Quarterly: "William Walker: Man with a Mission," by Martin Cook. (CAQ is available at the UCI Main Library's Current Periodicals Room, Call Number JK 468 I6 C68.)

Walker is interviewed by show host Dan Tsang, with the conversation touching on NATO bombing; the wrong-map excuse; CIA stations' relationship with an ambassador; peace negotiations in El Salvador; the School of the Americas; and NGOs during conflict. Joining in the latter part of the conversation is Caesar Sereseres, Assoc. Dean, School of Social Sciences. We also discuss an incident involving an altercation with a UCI student.
