Vietnamese American videographer on KUCI

Irvine -- Subversity, a public affairs program on KUCI, this evening interviews Trac Minh Vu, a videographer who made "Letters to Thien." It's the story of Ly Minh Thien, savagely stabbed to death in Tustin two years ago. Subversity airs from 5-6 p.m. tonight on KUCI, 88.9 FM in Orange County. Vu, who did this video as his senior thesis at Cornell, explains why he focused on the friends and family of Thien, and not the perpetrators, who recently were convicted of the hate crime. For more on his video, check out the distributor Fusion Picture's Web site: www.accelerated.com/fusion

Vu's video will have its Orange County premiere Saturday, January 31, as part of the all-day Asian Pacific American Awareness Conference at UCI's Student Center. It will be featured during Workshop Session II (2:35 p.m. to 3:50 p.m.), but attendees need to register for the whole conference. Info: (714) 824-2224.

Subversity also will air this evening a repeat of an interview with Kate Martin, director of the Center for National Security Studies, and lawyer for Dan Tsang, the host of Subversity, in his battle with the CIA for his file. Since then, the Orange County Register has run a profile of Tsang and Subversity, at: www.ocregister.com/news/1998/0198/012598/cia025w.shtml

Listeners can call the station at (714) 824-KUCI during the show.
