Gay Teens on Subversity

Irvine -- Another gay youth group has formed at an Orange County school, this time at Los Alamitos High School. Grant Peterson, an openly gay senior at the school, heads its new Gay/Straight Alliance. Peterson appears this evening on Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 FM in Orange County.

Peterson is currently in his senoir year at Los Alamitos High School. He also attends Los Alamitos's sister school, Orange County High School of the Arts, for classes in theater performance.

Peterson wanted to create this new club at Los Al, a school known for preaching about its tolerance and awareness. Grant is the President of the club, while his straight friend, Fred Peters (also a senior) is the Vice President. The group meets every Friday during lunch in the club advisor's room. The average attendance is approximately 60 people. They aim at having a guest speaker come every other week. On weeks without guest speakers they tackle such issues as coming out and campus discrimination.

Peterson will be joined on Subversity by Fred Peters and other members of the alliance.

Subversity has in the past featured two earlier high school gay support groups, those at Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach High Schools, and covered the related protests over the clubs' formation.

Show host is Daniel C. Tsang. Subversity airs each Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 FM. Callers can dial (714) 824-KUCI(5824) during the show.
