U.S. Ambassador Pete Peterson meets Vietnamese community

Irvine -- Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, this evening features excerpts from the Vietnamese community's tete a tete with U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Douglas ("Pete") Peterson, a former POW in the "Hanoi Hilton", this afternoon in Garden Grove. Subversity airs this evening, Tuesday, November 25, 1997, from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 FM in Orange County. With Peterson was Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove).

Peterson defended U.S. trade ties with Vietnam as part of a "constructive engagement" to better conditions there. Peterson faced local anti-communists, one of whom accused Peterson of representing the Vietnamese government instead of the American.

Subversity previously has aired a speech given by Peterson's counterpart, Vietnam Ambassador to U.S. Le Van Bang, before the World Affairs Council of Orange County. Show host is Daniel C. Tsang (824-4978).
