DeMatteis' published work includes "A Portrait of Vietnam" (Norton, 1996) and "Nicaragua: A Decade of Revolution" (Norton, 1991). His Vietnam book included a foreward by Oliver Stone and an epologue by Le Ly Hayslip, whose biography was the basis of Stone's film, "Heaven and Earth."
DeMatteis, who visited and spoke at UC Irvine yesterday, is leading six photography expeditions (lasting 15 days each) to Vietnam this year (Feb. 28, April 11, May 23, June 25, Sept. 26 and Oct. 31, 1997). His work on Vietnam is currently on display (through March 30) at the Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach.
