Actor on Subversity; Free Tickets available

Irvine -- Today's edition of Subversity continues to focus on the ongoing Vietnam Film Week at Thu Do Theater, with an interview with actor and producer Tuan Tran. Subversity will also bring you a progressive look at the California Propositions in next week's election. The show airs today, Tuesday, October 29, 1996, from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 FM.

Tran plays an Amerasian gang member in Loc Do's "Bastards" (1996), which had its world premiere last Saturday at Orange County's first Vietnam Film Week in Garden Grove. Tran also produced the independent feature, which is being shown in Europe this week. In "Bastards," his mother is played by Le Hiep Thi, who protrayed Le Ly Hayslip in Oliver Stone's "Heaven and Earth." Tran portrayed a Vietcong soldier who rapes Hayslip in the Oliver Stone movie.

The film festival continues through Sunday. Courtesy of the festival organizers and Thu Do Theater, Subversity is pleased to offer a limited number of free tickets to the film festival (Friday's show) to the first few listeners who call the show today. Call 824-KUCI during the show.

At Friday's 7:30 p.m. showing of her film, UC Berkeley Women's Studies Prof. Trinh T. Minh Ha will be present to discuss "A Tale of Love" (1995). A Vietnamese-language film, "Tears of Ice" (a ghost story with little dialog) follows at 9:30 p.m.; its cast and director Vo Doan Chau will also be present.
