Ex-UCI Bio Major Sentenced

Irvine -- In an exclusive report, KUCI radio's "Subversity" program will air today the hearing at which former UCI student Dan Hoang's motion for a new trial was rejected and he was sentenced. Hoang, convicted of attempted murder counts last year in a shooting incident in Alton Square in 1994, maintains he deserves a new trial. He did not shoot anyone in the incident in which a passenger ended up shooting two people. KUCI has been following Hoang's case from the beginning. The defense charges prosecutorial misconduct, wrong rulings from the bench and incompetent counsel by a former defense attorney. At the trial, the prosecutor made reference to his UCI student status and the fact that many Asians graduate with honors from UCI when she insisted Hoang was the "Al Capone" of the AKP gang. Hoang, on a previous Subversity interview from OC Jail, has denied any gang membership. Subversity airs each Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm. Listeners can call the show at (714) 824-KUCI. Subversity is on the web at . For more information, contact show host Dan Tsang at (714) 824-4978.
