Subject: Gay Support Group returns to Subversity

Irvine -- The Fountain Valley Student Alliance, a support group for lesbian, gay and bisexual students at Fountain Valley High School, makes a return appearance on KUCI's Subversity interview program Tuesday, April 2, 1996. The live interview/talk show airs Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 FM in Orange County, kicking off the first show of the Spring Quarter which starts today at UC Irvine. The topic: Supporting Queer Youth.

The student alliance was last on the show hours before the Huntington Beach Unified School District school board held a raucous public hearing to debate the fate of the group two years ago. The school board upheld the alliance's right to continue to meet, but since that time, a school district in Utah has banned any student group from meeting in its schools there.

Members of the Fountain Valley Student Alliance, some of whom were recently contacted by press in Utah, will discuss why it is important for such groups to continue to exist, and what it has been up to in the last two years. Subversity in 1994 broke the story of two other gay support groups in Orange County high schools. Listeners are encouraged to call the show at (714) 824-KUCI to chat with the guests.
