Remembering the life of Yen Do, publisher of Nguoi Viet

Irvine -- Yen Do or Do Ngoc Yen, founder of Nguoi Viet newspaper in Little Saigon, died Thursday, August 17, 2006. On our next Subversity show, we talk with journalism prof. Jeff Brody about Yen Do's life and how he managed to navigate the treacherous minefields of rightwing exile politics.

Brody is the author of "Yen Do and the story of Nguoi Viet Daily News," (2003), based on Brody's interviews with the publisher. Before entering academia, Brody was a long-time reporter for the Orange County Register, where he covered Yen Do and Little Saigon. He now is a communications professor at California State University in Fullerton.

Yen Do also served as chair of UCI Libraries' Southeast Asian Archive's advisory board. He was honored with a plaque at a ceremony at UCI on February 21, 2001.

The Subversity show airs Monday, August 21, 2006 from 9-10 am on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, and is webcast simultaneously via the Web at kuci.org.

An audio recording of this show will be archived via the show's website.

Thanx for listening.
