Now into its second week, farmworkers who pick tomatoes for a Taco Bell subcontractor are protesting working conditions and low pay by the corporation and the sub-contractors who hire them.
Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, interviews Immokalee, Florida farmworker Francisca Cortez, originally from Mexico, and Student Farmworkers Alliance organizer Brian Payne about the hunger strike and why they have travelled all the way from Florida to Orange County, California, to make their stand.
For video and articles on the hunger strike, go to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Web site: www-ciw-online.org/
Subversity airs today from 4-5 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County. It is also Web-cast via kuci.org.

Tomorrow there will be an anti-war rally on the UCI campus (outside the Main Library) from 11:30 am -12:30 pm in events associated with the national Walk Out and Strike against the War.
There is also as part of the Orange County Anti-War Movement National Day of Action a demonstration outside the Ronald Reagan Federal Court House, 411 W. Fourth Street Santa Ana, from 1-3 p.m.

On the May 4, 2001 edition of KUCI's Alternative News [now no longer broadcasting], we interviewed three farmworkers from Florida. Peter Stedman, Lucas Benitez and Antonio Martinez were in Irvine, drumming up support for a Taco Bell boycott. They're with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers in Florida.
