On Friday, The Flip Side, the first Filipino American feature film to premiere at Sundance, makes it to the big screen at Edwards University across from UCI (at University Town Center on Campus Drive).
To find out about Rod Pulido's satirical look at a Pinoy family in southern California, we chat with indie filmmaker Rod Pulido, and members of his cast: Verwin GatPandan (UCI student at time the film was shot), Jose Saenz (rap artist "Flipchild"), Ronalee Par (UCI drama graduate), and Abe Pagtama, who plays the patriarch of the family.
The story revolves around GatPandan's character, Darius, who's joined Kababayan on campus and seeks to find his roots and spends much of his time at home dressed in a tribal loincloth.
The director and cast appear on Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program today, from 4-5 p.m, airing on 88.9 fm in Orange County, Calif., and via the Web on kuci.org.
To chat with our guests, call: 949 824 5824. Comments can also be sent to subversity@kuci.org during the show.
This show is dedicated to the memory of former UCB chancellor and former UCI executive vice chancellor Tien Chang-Lin, a strong advocate of affirmative action, who died this past week.
The show will be archived and available in RealAudio later this week.
Watch also for show host Dan Tsang's review of The Flip Side in OC Weekly coming out Thursday (www.ocweekly.com).
