Earlier this year, a gay Vietnamese American student at UCI reported he was beaten up at OC Jail by a sheriff's deputy. And more recently, several black inmates have filed a lawsuit against their jailers, charging that a "psycho crew" of deputies beats black inmates regularly. Deputies have also been accused of staging fights among inmates, a charge reminiscent of those at the state prison, Corcoran.
On Tuesday on Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, we talk with the black inmates' lawyer, long-time civil rights attorney Dick Herman, who since the 1970s has been monitoring jail conditions as part of a settlement the county originally reached with the ACLU.
To listen to the show, tune to 88.9 fm Tuesday from 4-5 p.m for Subversity. It's also aired on the Web via kuci.org.
To join the discussion, call (949) 824-5824 during the show.
