Democracy Now! in Exile on KUCI

Irvine -- Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, is pleased to air yesterday's edition of Democracy Now!, currently in exile from the Pacifica Network. The show airs today, September 7, 2001, from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County and live on the Web via kuci.org.

Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman, whose dispute with WBAI management in New York has forced her to produce her show off-site, is in Durban, South Africa, attending the World Racism Conference. In this show, she talks with Rev. Jesse Jackson and actor/activist Danny Glover. Also airing is a speech by South African Bishop Desmond Tutu before the conference. In addition, there's a report on the continuing troubles in Northern Ireland, this time involving attacks on Catholic children.

Today is also the International Day of Action against Video Surveillance (www.notbored.org/7s01.html).

UCI's Academia and Action meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at UCI's Humanities Hall, room 248.
