Sweatshops in Southern California

Irvine -- How many sweatshops are there in Southern California?

We'll attempt to find an answer when we chat with Marissa Nuncio, program coordinator with Sweatshop Watch, during this afternoon's edition of Subversity, a public affairs interview program on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, and kuci.org on the Web. We'll also find out the makeup of the workers, what working conditions are like, why labor laws aren't enforced, and how corporations are reacting. Also, what is the latest on the mistreatment of Vietnamese workers in Samoa? And what is happening in Saipan? The show airs from 4-5 p.m. today.

Nuncio, who spoke at last Wednesday's FTAA teach-in at UC Irvine, was formerly with the gay center in los angeles where she worked on enpowering queer students in schools.

To chat with Nuncio, call 949 824-5824 during the show.
