DA's Outreach to Vietnamese Community

Irvine -- Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, Wednesday, October 18 features an interview with Thuy Linh Tran, the newly appointed Vietnamese outreach liaison in the Orange County District Attorney's office.

The show airs on October 18 from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm and is Web-cast on kuci.org. Listeners can call (949) 824-5824 to chat with the guest.

An M.A. in International Relations, Tran (who goes by the name Thuy Linh) has worked in grassroots, non-profit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. These include Asian, Inc., VNHELP (Viet Nam Health, Education & Literature Projects), Southeast Asian Community Center, and the Vietnamese American Studies Center at San Francisco State University.

As a community activist, she advocates improving ties with Viet Nam in the areas of cultural, academic and business exchanges. She also freelances for a bilingual Vietnamese and English community paper, the New Asian Journal, based in Southern California. She is particularly interested in promoting the arts in the Pan Asian Pacific American communities.

She is perhaps best known for an article she wrote for the San Jose Mercury News reacting to the protests (some directed at her) at the art exhbibit on Ho Chi Minh in Oakland last year, "Generation Gap: A young woman seeks dialogue with her elders," April 30, 2000.
