Coming out in schools

Irvine -- In the wake of the Orange Unified School District vote allowing a gay support group meet, Subversity this afternoon features an interview with Luis Torres, co-chair of GLSEN in Orange County, the educators' group that is supporting young people coming out in schools.

Torres is a history teacher at a public school, Marco Forster Middle School in San Juan Capistrano, and co-chairs the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network of Orange County (GLSEN-OC). GLSEN (www.glsen.org) is the leading national organization working to end anti-gay bias in K-12 schools. Established nationally in 1994, the organization has become one of the nation's premiere voices for equality and safety in America's K-12 schools. Torres is also a UCI alumnus.

The show airs from 4-5 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, Calif., and is Web-cast at kuci.org.

To chat with Torres during the show, call (949) 824-5824.
