Philly protests aftermath: Lessons for Los Angeles?

Irvine -- Subversity, a public affairs program on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, this evening continues its coverage of the GOP convention protests in Philadelphia last week, focusing on the aftermath with over a hundred peaceful protesters still jailed, amidst allegations of police abuse. What lessons are there for the upcoming Los Angeles Democractic Party convention protests?

We chat with Prof. Larry Gross, a U. of Pennsylvania communications professor, who served on a committee investigating police abuse. We also speak with an activist who was just bailed out of jail, and with ACT-UP member Scott Tucker.

The show is also simultaneously Web-cast at kuci.org/listen.html.

Call (949) 824-5824 to chat with the guests.

For more on the protests, check out the Independent Media Center (www.indymedia.org) Web-site. IMC will also bring Web-browsers the protests at the upcoming Democratic Party Convention in Los Angeles.

The North American Anarchist Conference: A Festival of Communities in Resistance, takes place August 11-17 in Los Angeles. There will be panels on Police Abuse and Cop Watch.
