"Consuming Classrooms: Private Interests and Public
Education, Part 1"

As public schools in the United States
struggle for adequate funding, corporations are
stepping in with educational material, commercial
television shows, computer networks, video
conferencing equipment, and satellite distribution
systems. At the same time, conservative think
tanks are generating scenarios for further
privatizing schools through voucher programs and
charter school schemes. On this program, we take
a look at some of the social costs of bringing the
private sector into public education.

Featuring: Sarah Church, Berkeley High School
student; Alex Molnar, Center for the Analysis of
Commercialism in Education; Bob Peterson,
Rethinking Schools; Eli Rosenblatt, Prison
Activist Resource Center; Gary Ruskin, Commercial
Alert; Ann Simonton, Media Watch; Robert Weissman,
Multinational Monitor
