Editor of "Joey"; El Modena and UCI Strike updates

Irvine -- There's a new gay male youth magazine just out: Joey!

Subversity, a KUCI public affairs interview program, Friday (March 17) features an interview with Jerry Dunn, a recent UCLA graduate who's just put out a new glossy gay magazine aimed at gay boys and young male adults. Joey atttempts to provide an alternative forum for gay youth; and to counter the "perfect" bodies that occupy most gay magazines, by portraying regular guys next door. We'll ask Dunn how his mag is different from or similar to the other gay youth mag, XY.

See Booth Moore, "Coming Out With a Glossy Quarterly for Gay Teen Boys", Los Angeles Times, March 2, 2000 (avail. on: Lexis-Nexis from UCI computers).

We will also provide an update on the gay-straight alliance controversy since the "biting criticism" incident with anarchist black ninjas and the resignation of a co-founder of the group, and provide an update on the now-averted strike by UC student workers.
