Surveillance in the New Millennium

Irvine -- What kind of surveillance can we expect in a global society where technological advances seem to outpace human capacity to respond to it?

Subversity, a weekly KUCI public affairs interview program, this week features an interview with Gary T. Marx, Emeritus Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the leading scholar on surveillance. The sociologist was on UC Irvine's campus the last several weeks as a Chancellor's Distinguished Fellow teaching a class and also speaking publicly. For his prolific output, see a selected bibliography of his works compiled by two UCI librarians: www.lib.uci.edu/rrsc/fellows/marxbib.html. His own Web page contains more material: http://web.mit.edu/gtmarx/www/garyhome.html.

Subversity host Daniel C. Tsang chats with Marx on "Surveillance in the New Millennium" and efforts to resist it.

The show airs from 5-6 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2000 on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, Calif., and is also simultaneously Web-cast (info. at kuci.org/listen.html for computers with sound cards and/or MP3 players).
