Subversity talks with "librarian of sexual congress"

Irvine -- Subversity, a KUCI public affairs interview program, Friday evening (Jan. 21) features an interview with Ralph Whittington, a librarian whose collection of pornography is slated for a museum. The interview airs from 5-6 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, and is web-cast at the same time: kuci.org/listen.html.

Whittington, who in his professional work curates the Main Reading Room at the Library of Congress, has such an immense private collection of pornography that in the 1980s, the Museum of Modern Art agreed to take it. Although meticulously arranged, it still awaits further processing in Whittington's Maryland residence.

Whittington was featured on Spin magazine's November 1999 issue as "The Librarian of Sexual Congress," and recently appeared on Comedy Central and Extra! He is the star of "King of Porn", a documentary by Jeff Krulik. See also Krulik's home page. He was also featured on gettingit.com's Scope section January 19, 2000: The Librarian of Porn.

Whittington is interviewed by Subversity host Dan Tsang, who reviews erotic magazines for the reference work, Magazines for Libraries. Tsang's essay on gay Asian male erotic videos appears in Porn 101 (Prometheus Press, 1999), which presents the conference proceedings of the 1998 World Pornography Conference. The book cleared a state audit recently.
