Self Defense Family - Have You Considered Punk Music? - (Run For Cover Records)
Self Defense Family is a Post-Hardcore band/collective from Cohoes, NY. Their highly anticipated new record entitled Have You Considered Punk Music?, which is set to be released this Friday (June 29th) courtesy of Run For Cover Records, is a really awesome and unique sounding record that can be characterized by its catchy yet intricate guitar parts, off-set timing/song structures, eclectic use of unusual sounding instruments/sounds (i.e. synthesizers, sound clips, drum machines, etc.), and poetic lyricism. With that being said, the sounds heard on this album can be compared to those heard from some of the other more well-known Post-Hardcore bands on the scene today such as: Touché Amoré, La Dispute, Pianos Become The Teeth, Creative Adult, and Super Unison. Tracks to definitely check out on this record include: “The Supremacy Of Pure Artistic Feeling,” “Watcher At The Well,” “Have You Considered Punk Music,” “Raw Contempt,” “The Right Kind Of Adult.”

Culture Abuse - Bay Dream - (Epitaph Records)
Culture Abuse is an Alternative/Punk band from San Francisco, CA. Their highly anticipated new record entitled Bay Dream, which is the band’s first full length album to be released by Epitaph Records, is a really awesome record that can be characterized by its catchy guitar hooks, upbeat drumming, poppy vocal melodies, and care free/slacker rock-eque vibes. With that being said, the sounds heard on this album can be compared to those heard from some of the other more well-known Alternative/Punk bands on the scene today such as: Drug Church, Fiddlehead, Joyce Manor, Hard Girls, and Beach Slang. Tracks to definitely check out on this record include: “Bay Dream,” “Dip,” “Bee Kind To The Bugs,” “California Speedball,” and “Calm E.”

The Get Up Kids - Kicker - EP - (Polyvinyl Records)
The Get Up Kids are a legendary Emo band from Kansas City, MO. Their highly anticipated new EP entitled Kicker, which is the band’s first piece of new music to be released in over seven years (as well as their first ever release on Polyvinyl Records), is a really awesome and well-crafted record that can be characterized by its catchy guitar hooks, upbeat drumming, poppy vocal melodies, and emotionally charged lyrics. With that being said, the sounds heard on this EP can be compared to those heard from some of the other more well-known Emo bands of both the past and present such as: The Promise Ring, Texas Is The Reason, Saves The Day, Jawbreaker, Dowsing, Tigers Jaw, and Knapsack. Tracks to definitely check out on this EP include: “Maybe” and “My Own Reflection.”

Petal - Magic Gone - (Run For Cover Records)
Petal (i.e. the stage name of musician Kiley Lotz) is an Indie/Emo solo act from Scranton, PA. Kiley’s highly anticipated new album entitled Magic Gone, which is the second full length LP of hers to be released by Run For Cover Records, is a really awesome and well-crafted record that can be characterized by its intricate guitar parts, soft and soothing vocal melodies, and emotionally charged lyrics. With that being said, the sounds heard on this album can be compared to those heard from some of the other more well-known Indie/Emo bands on the scene today such as: Tigers Jaw, Camp Cope, Lemuria, Waxahatchee, and Ratboys. Tracks to definitely check out on this record include: “Better Than You,” “Tightrope,” “Magic Gone,” and “Stardust.”
