Anna Calvi - ST (Domino)
I read that Nick Cave personally requested for her to support Grinderman on tour, and after a quick listen I can hear why. Anna Calvi has a really confident voice, and a penchant for being epic, if that means anything. Maybe virtuosic is a better way to describe her. Mesmerizing.

Lumerians - Transmalinnia (Knitting Factory)
I hesitate to call this a bass heavy dance band. How about a groove heavy psych band. They really utilize texture and repetition in their composition's. Sometimes they remind me of Spiritualized.

Starfucker - Reptilians (Polyvinyl)
The album reminds me a bit of Yoshimi Battles Pink Robots a bit to start (in a very good way), with the happy electronics (samples and keys) mixed in with the strumming guitar. The rest of the album stays really catchy with its synth-pop-ness. It?s all pretty good.

Typhoon - A New Kind Of House (Tender Loving Empire)
Typhoon make a kind of epic (there?s that word again) orchestral rock. Reminds me of Bright Eyes (in a good way) or Okkervil River.

Eddie Dixon - Skirmisher (SR)
Just some simple fun music by a dude (Eddie Dixon) and his guitar. --Tan

The Disappearing Act (tortilla)
Rockin in the style of Malkmus, Wilco, The Shins.
Generic Indie Rock!

Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion - Bright Examples (Ninth Street Opus)
Quality song writing from a male/female duo. A tad folky, though more rocky most of the time.

We Are Enfant Terrible - Explicit Pictures (Last Gang)
Dance party, part deaux. Synths + 8 bit sounds, performed through a Gameboy. French Trio. Yes! Imagine something like Goldfrapp or CSS.

Demo Team - Trimurti (SR)
One weird record. Sometimes it?s spoken word, sometimes it?s some random assortment of instruments, such as cellos, saxes, etc. Definitely more in the arty/experimental vein. Works most of the time.

A Hawk and a Hacksaw - Cervantine
Features Jeremy Barnes (formerly Neutral Milk Hotel). If you like Devotchka, or music that is a blend of gypsy sounding Romainian, Greek, Turkish, Slavik type music, this is a good album to pick up.

Wye Oak - Civilian (Merge)
This is the 3rd album from the duo known as Wye Oak. This is more of a personal album than their others. They kind of make a folky record, but with fuzzy guitars.

Dum Dum Girls - He Gets Me High EP (Sub Pop)
LA Based fuzzy girl group music. Short and to the point. Last track is another cover of The Smiths.
