Just wanted to pass along a little story I experienced with my U24F. Bought an used IBM 0664 2GB Wide SCSI-2 disk on behalf of a friend, welded together the appropriate Wide -> Narrow adapter and hooked it up to my own U24F - Plug&Play. Installed OS/2 and stress tested the drive without a hitch. Moved it over to my friends DPT 2122 (EISA) controller - no go. Series of BIOS make-do excuses etc etc. Tried it then on my AHA1542 - no go; different excuses. Tried it on an Trantor T130B - same all over. Tried low level format from both the DPT, Adaptec and the Trantor - no go. Yet another set of excuses and error messages. Put the drive back on the U24F and low level formatted - OK, no problemo! Moved the drive back over to the DPT - now everything worked also here. And on the Adaptec and the Trantor - even the low level format they prior had refused to do... What the problem was? Don't really know, but this was obviousely the reason the drive was put out for secondhand sale in the first place :-) But since this is an high end IBM drive I can only speculate in RS-6000 formatting... If I could spare the time I might have found out more. Geir Frode Raanes geirfrs@invalid.ed.unit.no
