Cuban poster art with Lincoln Cushing

Irvine -- Cuban poster art is a beautiful documentation of the struggles of the people of the world for a better life. UC Berkeley librarian Lincoln Cushing has compiled a selection of these in his new book, Revolucion! Cuban Poster Art (Chronicle Books).

On Tuesday's edition of Subversity, a KUCI public affairs program, we chat with Cushing about his "mild obsession" collecting Cuban posters, and his progressive work in the library and labor movements. He currently serves as a bargaining team member of UC librarians negotiating a renewed contract with UC management. We'll also discuss the current situation in Vietnam and the recent press furor over the American Library Association and Cuba.

The show airs Tuesday, July 15, 2003 from 4-5 p.m. on KUCI, 88.9 fm in Orange County, California and is Web-cast at the same time via

You can call 949 824 5824 to chat with Cushing during the show. Or email: during the show.

UCI Libraries' Department of Special Collections and Archives has acquired over 100 Cuban posters, A finding aid to the first 26 of them, focusing on Vietnam and Asian solidarity etc., is at:
