Orange County as center of a new social movement

Irvine -- Orange County was once the center of a new social movement, one that led to the Reagan presidency. So says Lisa McGirr, a historian at Harvard, and the author of a new book, "Suburban Warriors," about the emergence in Orange County in the 1960s of committed conservatives who organized a social movement that enabled Ronald Reagan to win the presidency two decades later.

Her new book, which focuses on Orange County, and its history of Republican conservative activism, is published by Princeton University Press. The university press web-site,, offers a link to the full-text of the book's introductory chapter.
