WEEKEND RECAP AND UPCOMING SHOWS!

As I try to juggle KUCI's ticket giveaways and promote shows, I decided a blog that isn't just about the Press Pass Music show or one of our KUCI Nights was definitely
necessary.

Last week launched three nights of great residency shows that you need to check out: Mondays at Detroit Bar w/The New Limb and Stacy Clark; Tuesday at La Cave with Handsome G; and Thursdays at The Gypsy Lounge with The Union Line. All free shows, all month-long and 21+.

Friday's KUCI Night at eVocal with Howl, Sprawl Out and Upsilon Acrux was pretty much a party/reunion. Sprawl Out celebrated the release of their new album while Howl performed for the first time since their lineup change. The venue was packed and I even spoke with this local artist named Warren who is designing a special KUCI hat for me. Heck yes! I plan on wearing it at every show. You know, the blond hair and tallness really wasn't enough to stand out. ; ) ALSO, KUCI judged the Irvine Battle of the Bands on Friday as well and Motormouth won! They will be on my show in July! Congrats to the band!

Saturday night: I headed to Detroit Bar and met up with Mr. Albert Ching (OC Weekly's music editor and my new BFF) to see Orange County band The Colourist play with Long Beach's Parade of Lights and the band Clues (including ex-members of Arcade Fire and Unicorns). It was another packed night. The Colourist have come out of hiding (yayyy!)and will be playing the next KUCI Night at the Yost Theater on June 25 with Army Navy, The Jakes and The Valley Arena(all ages show btw).

Sunday night: I had a meeting with ArtiSans Label regarding PR/Marketing initiatives. It's always nice to see the wonderful people of ArtiSans. I hoped to catch The Steelweels recording but they obviously knew I was coming and switched days. ; ) I did check out the genius producer Barrett Slagle working on some tracks by Rye Douglas Band, which you guys better prepare yourselves for because it's hot. Also, be ready for The Steelwells, who are coming out with a new album in August and will be playing KUCI Days at The Lab on June 28 with Oliver Jane.

Now, the rest of the week will include trying to overcome a frustrating cold that is about to attack. I can sense it. But I am still seeing The New Limb on Monday, Handsome G on Tuesday, Deccatree (KUCI Night at The Gypsy Lounge) on Wednesday, The Union Line on Thursday and I'm sure something is happening on Friday. In between all of this, there are plans of more KUCI Nights (we'll also be at Hootenanny on July 4th and the OC Fair on August 7th). Stay tuned for more KUCI news. But as for my own personal news, the launch of my music PR/Marketing/Promotions firm is still in the works and on my show this Thursday you can catch the band Entice.

Gotta love Orange County music. Now, your homework is to do something that benefits independent music. Whether it's purchasing a band's CD, attending a show, etc.
