Playlist for 12-27-08

Happy holiday weekend!

On this week's show I played a few new bands to Press Pass Music. They included Moostache, Andrew Heringer Band, Hollowell, Will Crum, Marc B and Walk The Rio. Just by looking at these bands and hearing the sounds they produce, you can tell how diverse Orange County music really is. I love it!!!!!

What are you doing for New Year's? Well, whatever it is, hopefully you'll spend it with good friends, good booze and good spirits. It's what you make it. You have to know you're going to have a great time. It doesn't matter how much you spend on a hotel or club party, ex. Party hopping in Santa Barbara last year and getting locked out of a friends and crashing at some random but very nice people's house. ; ) The best New Year's ever! Again my New Year's Resolution for 2009 is to bring Orange County the biggest New Year's party with five to eight local bands for 2010 and to go to more shows!

Have a wonderful time you guys! OH and next week's show is my pick for the best songs of 2008.... also, I will be surveying locals on their favs too. If you have a favorite song from a local musician... send me an email: ashleyeliot@yahoo.com and I will dedicate that song to you.

Keep supporting local independent music!

Local Holiday show and Dolphin City's new album -- The Playlist

Hey music lovers,

How's everyone doing? I finally woke up at 4 p.m. today, since I pulled an alnighter before my show and passed out right after. I thought since in the article in OC Weekly I said I never go out on Friday nights I would try it out for once. I just finished school and it's the holidays. What the heck! My coworker and I sailed through the boat parade in Newport and then hit a holiday party at a friend's house (I knew I wasn't sleeping before my show once I walked through the door). It was worth it though. I met a few musicians so expect more new music on next week's show.

Now, I am catching up on work and hoping to hit the Dolphin City CD release party at eVocal tonight.

On today's show, I played Dolphin City's new album "Discretion" on the first-half of the show and then the second-half it was the LOCAL HOLIDAY show featuring holiday tunes from local musicians.

Thanks for everyone's support. It's been a great ride. I hope to continue bringing you Orange County independent music and keeping you updated on what's going on in our music scene.

Have a VERY NICE holiday weekend. Merry Chrismuhanukwanzukah!!!

The issue just came out today, so run to your local Wahoos and pick one up (oh and along with an OC METRO of course).
Check out the article:

This is just the beginning for Orange County's music scene. We all have to pull together and really get our local musicians heard. We're on to a great start and I can't wait for what's to come.

As for this week's show, it's going to be a Local Holiday. I'm actually going to attempt at pulling an alnighter soooooooo wish me luck!

Happy Holidays and enjoy the time off... we all deserve a break.

Press Pass Music -- 12-13-08 playlist and more

Hey kids,

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend. As for me, I'm at the station doing some more volunteer hours and then I need to study for two finals. But don't worry Monday I will be free at last. Expect me to hit a bunch of shows this week.

As for what I played on this week's show, we heard some sounds from new bands never before played on Press Pass Music. Some of the bands were Melanoid, Czar Rose, TableFruit and Oliver Jane.... speaking of Oliver Jane... here's an email from Oliver about the song "Hot Misery" and "Passeporte." It's an inside scoop on what the songs are really about. This band is fairly new but is getting a pretty big following. Check out their myspace (www.myspace.com/oliverjane)

Here's what he said:
"Hot Misery" -- "Because tea is a HUGE part of the irish life style, we took to drinking it many times a day. 'Hot Misery' was inspired when Oliver spilled a cup of hot tea and and Jane's uncle got very cross with him. The original version had slurping noises in the song and everything."
From the lyrics: "I'm sorry that i made a mess, i promise that i'll clean it up someday."

"Passeporte" -- "This is a story about a woman who travels to Paris on a business trip. On her travels, she meets a young french man and they end up having a one night stand. she tries to tell him that it could never work out and leaves for the airport. he follows her yelling things in french at her but she can not understand what he says because she does not speak his language. she is convinced he is in love with her (she is kinda arrogant) and tries to tell him it will never work out. in reality the french man does not love her and is only trying to tell her she has forgoten her passport."

My playlist is below. But before that, there are some shows to check out tonight and later this week, AND A LOT OF THEM ARE FREE SHOWS!!

Enjoy the weekend.... go to a holiday party or go to a whole bunch... and please please see a local music show. Support...listen... and remember that what's in your own backyard is pretty GREAT.

OC Weekly interview with Luke Allen -- the new visionary of the 2009 OC Music Awards

I've actually been helping book bands for the OC Music Awards showcase, which will take place from January to March. The actual awards will be in early April. As for the lineup... sorry, you've got to be patient... but it's looking pretty good right now. Luke Allen, owner of Gemini Studios ( where I want to live!!), is now in charge of the OC Music Awards. I am looking forward to the new and improved event. With Luke in charge, it's going to be as Borat would say "great success!" I'm thrilled to be part of the awards and cannot wait for the showcase.

Check out the interview by OC Weekly's Chris Zieger (such a nice guy btw.. and funny too).

As for what's happening on Press Pass Music this Saturday, you can expect a lot of new bands and a volatile mix of major rump shaking. ; ) haha.

AND on Saturday, Dec. 22 is my Local Holiday show. If you want to submit tunes, email me at ashleyeliot@yahoo.com.

ALSO, I just reapplied for my show next semester and I hope to get a timeslot with more fexibility for bringing in musicians to share their thoughts and play their music. Wish me luck and cross your fingers, eyes, toes....

Have a beautiful weekend. Monday is my last final... then we party.

Acrobatics Everyday needs your help!!!

Our Music Director Sam Farzin has been the brains behind Acrobatics Everyday, which brings independent bands and musicians to UCI's campus, for the last year and now UCI doesn't want to allow him to have these shows on the actual campus. The school wants him to rent a facility for his events. How do you feel about this? Please share your thoughts and show your support. Send an email to acrobaticseveryday@gmail.com and support Acrobatics Everyday. Check out the article, click below:

Press Pass Music -- playlist for 12-6-08

Yo kids. Here's the playlist... I'm exhausted. I did something stupid and went out last night thinking I would be fine for the show. ummmm... I got three hours of sleep and now I have to go help out with a nonprofit event. Then back to studying for finals and writing like five papers. Yes, I'm busy...yes, I graduate next semester... I better be! ; )

Anyways... the show was fun this morning. There was another DJ in the studio doing some volunteer hours so we freaked each other out thinking there was someone else in the studio. Good times.

On this week's show I played The Henry Clay People's new album "For Cheap or For Free." It's a pretty great album. This band is definitely going places. Again, Eric (drums) and Joey (guitar and lead vocals) have roots in Orange County. Joey grew up in Yorba Linda and Eric lives in Tustin ( go Tustin, that's where I live!). Also, Noah and Andy graduated from UCI. Very nice!

Also, I played some music by new bands I discovered.. like The Steelwells, Chaser, Bigger Than Bridges ( a fairly new band who is looking for a guitarist) and The Trade.

I know I sounded like a frog this morning... get over it. ; ) Thanks for listening!

What to expect this Saturday, Dec. 6

Well hello there,

This week's show I'm playing some new music and some new bands I just discovered. Also, I will be playing the The Henry Clay People's new album throughout my show. Yes, the band may say there based in Glendale or Culver City but this band has roots in Orange County. Eric who plays drums in the band currenlty lives in Tustin and Joey, lead singer and guitarist, grew up in Yorba Linda. YES they were influenced by Orange County... and yes they have influenced Orange County. I hope that makes a little sense. Anyways... it should be an interesting show.

I've been keeping really busy lately. I'm helping book bands for the OC Music Awards, applying for a couple shows on KUCI for next quarter, getting ready for school to end ( two more weeks = five finals and five papers), holiday work parties are every week through Dec. and I'm trying to help launch binarysounds.com. Yes, it's alot... and HECK YES I love it. I'm excited for what is to come and you all need to get ready because OC is becoming an even more beautiful place. Thank you local musicians for being so friggin talented. Keep it up and keep producing great music.

Next week's show will be the HOLIDAY show!!! If you haven't sent me your holiday songs then shoot me an email: ashleyeliot@yahoo.com.

Live it up...see a local show... and if you need a friend to go then pshhhhhhh give me a ring. ; )

Thanks again for tuning in to Press Pass Music!
