We made it a good one. Black Keys to send it off yayyy. RIP James.

There's now a new schedule at KUCI.org and lots of shows have been changed up. In one instance perhaps it should be noted that Dogs Barking is now on Saturday nights, from 4PM-6PM. There's a lotta great new shows on air too now, and I recommend you peep the sched cause I guarantee there's something on there you'll like. Riiiiight???

The James thing was a joke. He's alive and well.

I was shown this really cool video of John Lennon called I Met the Walrus.
Check it out -->

Also bad news bears I'm in Santa Cruz and will most likely not be back in time for the weekend. So I won't be doing the first show of the new quarter. Instead Matt Buga from American Psychosis is going to take over and sub those first two hours of dankness. He plays a lot of punk so that's what you may be hearing. With a twist.

BTW Seabreeze Cafe in Santa Cruz is super tasty and you should check it out should you ever find yourself in Santa Cruzzeo. New time slot - Saturday afternoons 4PM-6PM, on 88.9 KUCI FM.

2. James will be departing from the show for this quarter.
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp a. But who am I kidding, he will most likely show up every now and then, probably more often than I expect.

3. Matt will be filling his shoes. Figuratively, they are some large shoes to fill; James was my absolute best homie and I'll be bummed about the shoes I have to do without him. Literally, Matt is in luck, because James is a Philippino man of small stature, his shoe size is somewhere around a 7 or 8. I could be wrong. Much love.
Matt's a fuckin G and will add a new distinct element to the show that you will love. I guarantee it.

4. Seriously check out some of this stuff, the guy's name is Matt Furie and he's like Sesame Street meets Gremlins in children's book form. I love it!
http://mattfurie.com
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 254px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SVnj9uP1f6I/AAAAAAAAAB8/dqtrNZowBic/s320/35.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285506287221964706" />

ps - Life has been busy. Got my Xmas shopping out of the way, fixed my car up, wrecked my car up, fixed it up again. Maybe I should get a bike. Or horse-drawn carriage.

But anyways- last week I did the show without James again, homie was gone on a cruise in Mexico. He said it was a lot old people, the food was alright and that he couldn't get an even tan. But his spirits were still high. Since he wasn't there, and I simply can't be alone for any extended amount of time, I had the lovely Brigitte come in to keep James's seat warm. Some little known facts about Brigitte - her name is spelled the French way and she'll exclaim "Freak!" if you startle her.

I felt like last week's playlist may have been a bit uninspired, but c'mon dog, cut me some slack. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SVKjtbii9bI/AAAAAAAAABs/-cLc_4xUxUo/s200/romeodelta.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283465313741108658" />I had just finished up finals and felt like taking it easy. However I did play Romeo Delta, which is a bomb ass blues rock band. They play in the LA area quite often and just put a new album titled Lucifer's Blues. The show was chill all around. A fan would turn on intermittently and make the entire studio freezing. Such is life.

Last night was insane. I met the dopest couple ever that had an amazing story of how they met. The dude had the most insane collection of vintage clothing and records that he sold on eBay. And the girl made a bunch of cool crafts and baked delicious pies. Which was cool and all. Then she tells me about her brother. They say he travels all over, playing the banjo and singing songs. He used to live in an octagon shaped sauna that was incredibly small and just had a bed, table, typewriter, and all his instruments. There wasn't even electricity in there. Before that he taught preschool, and later lived on a farm in Ireland. He's been going around Ireland busking on the streets to get by. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 170px; height: 226px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SUGaW8PMSJI/AAAAAAAAABk/1k4Pp7562wo/s320/felix.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278669957172578450" />

His name, is Felix Sonnyboy Wilson.
And he's fuckin awesome. I still made it to the show though. I also went to Disneyland yesterday, word up. The Toy Story game/ride at California Adventure is out of this world, too bad I was paired up with little kids every time and got whooped.

I brought my dad to the show on Thanksgiving so he could see what it was all about. He was pretty jazzed. Literally. He went through most of the jazz records and I foresee a show in the future in which he picks out all the sickest, old school fuzzy crackly jazz and I play them for him.

I planned on playing only DJs on the show, and it ended up working out pretty well. The illest, chillest, most fluxest thing happened two songs in. Dude calls up and tells me to keep it up with the mellow beats, cause he has his Russian lady friend to impress for the day. Some that puts some kick in my taste buds and makes me shiver. Something that makes me feel like listening to Ray Charles for the first time and feeling the rolling keyboard riffs for the first time in my childhood. I want something to put me into epileptic seizure.

So far here is what is put up

Entries- http://www.kuci.org/designcontest/entries/

If you have some thing better in mind; something of more substance, please and I mean PLEASE send a submission to:

http://www.kuci.org/designcontest/

and make it dope, otherwise I won't think twice about it.

If you send anything however, I'll put up a link on this page and rep you harder than a hype man for the NWA.

PEACE out ya'll and that's it.

My Word is as true as my piece.

FROGS DARKING

Illllllllin'

Check it.

Vanilla Tootsie rolls that only come out during Halloween season. They're absolutely delicious and it really bums me out that it's limited time kinda thing. I'm not much of a sweet tooth and these things get me good. Now that I think of it, regular Tootsie Rolls taste like bitter gritty dirt and I'd take these vanilla ones over the regs anyday. WORD.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SSXvbRFnlGI/AAAAAAAAABU/H0UzW9PhxdU/s200/k1102.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270882190629508194" />

My psychology teacher told me on Monday that if you want to get around a lie detector test, put a tack in your shoe and press down on it when you answer questions truthfully. That way when you finally have to lie, your baseline will appear to remain as constant as your truthful answers. Apparently they got big through Myspace, which show a huge shift in the way people get and find out about new music. Doesn't matter what time I wake up, whether its 7 in the morning or 5 in the afternoon, the first thing I want steaming in my belly better be something breakfast related; cereal, eggs, toast, pancakes, waffles, fruit. All good. All the time.

With that out of the way, today was a major success. I got iced coffee half way through the show and the girl behind the counter at the green tent had a Black Dice shirt on, so that was dope. James wants to add that she looks like a robot. Diff' strokes, diff' folks.

Also, anyone remember this show?? Nick Arcade? Crazy show where kids played inside video games? I'm really dying to know what it looked like for the contestants playing. Green screen?

I played this dope new Zach Hill album called Astrological Straits. People might disagree with me on this, but just about anything Zach Hill does is gold. Maybe I'm biased, maybe it's just cause I wish I could play drums that good but probably never will. Hell, I'm even down with his side project Nervous Cop, which is just three drummers going wild for a couple minutes. There was also an art show he did a while back that was pretty sweet, even if what he was selling, might have been a bit overpriced. Can't knock the guy for trying though.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SRy1v6OvqZI/AAAAAAAAAA0/bdKPzqiTBDU/s320/astrologicalcover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268285498806217106" />
That stuff aside though, this new album is pretty rockin. It has that Hella sound from Church Gone Wild and Homeboy. Its released on Ipecac Records, some fellows known for releasing almost all his stuff, and most of Hella's related acts. My man Zhubin recommended it to me, because we're both Hella fans. He's a homie, otherwise he wouldn't be here. I'm new to this blogging thing, I never know quite what to say, but I'm gonna do something new and highlight a couple of the song and artists I played today.

Here Goes:
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 241px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SQonbZWaz1I/AAAAAAAAAAU/PyAmD8gAxsM/s320/adron2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263062466150715218" />
Adron
Adrienne McCann, under the stage name Adron plays 60s Brazilian Tropicàlia music, just her and a guitar. The music stays unpredictable, with whispers, harmonies, and even some obscure noises thrown in that you wouldn't expect. String Song for instance, has the faint sound of waves and a woodpecker. The music is peaceful and should be enjoyed while laying in a hammock watching clouds pass overhead. She's originally from Atlanta, but has since moved to New York. Her music is released on New Street Records, based out of Georgia.
LINKS:
Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/adriennemccann
New Street Records - http://newstreetrecords.com/

Matthew Herbert Big Band

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 236px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WglF6pH5Ktw/SQoqGfoHdCI/AAAAAAAAAAk/42Uz-VgDBL4/s320/herbert.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5263065405593187362" />
This guy is huge. He's a master of sampling and recording non musical sound and making something magical. He's produced records for a huge list of artists, including Bjork, REM, Yoko Ono. But enough about that. His music, mannn. I played the song Knowing, which was described in the liner notes "100 people from around the world singing one word each. 70 simultaneous text messages." It really needs to be heard to be understood. The beginning is smoothly strung together, and the second half with the text messages, is simply erie and omniscient. His music is on Accidental Records.
LINKS:
Website - http://www.matthewherbert.com/
Accidental Records - http://www.accidentalrecords.com/

And now the playlist:

DOGS BARKING 10/30/08
1. The sizes are listed in women's, but it's meant to be unisex. Very accessible. There's also hoodies, shirts and other junk like that. I'm most down with "The Guerra", they remind of the cold winters I was raised on in Minnesota.

Just throwing this out there, but Sara works as a stylist mainly for photo shoots and music videos, and also as a personal shopper. James says there was "too much bread" on the sandwich, I say there was "a substantial amount."

If things fall into the correct places next week, we're going to have a band coming in and playing a sweet set.
